Giddy For Chickens!

Monday, March 8, 2010

I'm so excited about getting my chickens! I spent several days pouring over loads of information, trying to decide what breed(s) to get. Im partial to white eggs so Im making sure to get white and brown egg-layers. After much debate I've decided on the following...

Leghorns....5 hens and 2 roosters

Silver Laced Wyandottes...5 straight run (meaning unsexed chicks)

Light Brahma's...5 straight run. Look at their cute little feather feet!

And last but certainly not least, a couple gobblers! Arent they just beautiful?! They are called "Royal Palms". We are getting two and no...we are NOT eating them!

I got the coop all cleaned out. Now I need to paint it, put the enclosure up, plant some flowers and shrubs to "pretty it up" and build a few more nest boxes. I will post pics when Im done. I should have eggs for sale late this summer :)

Foghorn Leghorn and American Idol

Tuesday, March 2, 2010

Does anyone remember Foghorn Leghorn? I do and he was my favorite cartoon rooster..wait..he may have been the ONLY cartoon rooster!? I loved everything about him, especially that southern drawl when he would pick up Henry the chicken hawk and say "Boy, I say BOY!... YOU are a CHICKEN HAWK!". He had a delightful way of hitting on Miss Prissy...the hen. So in my search for the perfect rooster for my soon to be chicken herd (I know thats not the technical term!) Im going to get a big ole leghorn and name him Foghorn in honor of the cartoon I loved as a kid :) Im getting 6 little ladies for him to woo-although I havent decided what kind yet. I'll let ya'll know! I plan to clean up the chicken house this week-end if the weather is warm enough. A fresh coat of paint and a sign that reads "Welcome to the Coop" and we'll be in business! Pics will follow.
One more thing before I go fix dinner. AMERICAN IDOL. I watch every season and this year my favorites are Casey and Crystal..feel free to comment ;)

Chloe and her Snuggie...

So Im starting this blog to keep in touch with customers and potential customers of my etsy store. I plan to have contests, give-a-ways and I want to help other fellow etsians by having a "featured" seller Saturday complete with an interview.

I may also post about some of my other passions...gardening, cooking, crafting, and our menagerie of pets! I have plans this spring to raise some chickens, ducks, and a calf. Hubby would like to have several cows but we'll see if that pans out.

For now Ill leave you with pics of one happy satisfied customer..Winnie, whos noshing on some of my frosted dog bones. Hes so cute with his mush-mouth and wrinkly face! :) His momma, Kimberly Kramer, is one very nice lady too. Please take a minute and visit her etsy shop where she has delicious, delectable, goodies that she makes...YUMM!

Peace, love and puppy dog smootches! ♥ Jaimie
